FishingOne of the core aims of the project is to make the area a place for the community as a whole to enjoy. Currently the Dam and the adjacent woodland have a number of informal trails and the site is predominantly used by anglers, walkers, bird watchers and dog walkers.

The Loscoe Dam Project Group are working in partnership to preserve, conserve and enhance the lake for the benefit of the local community and to attract new visitors to the area. The process will begin with the production of five plans which will shape the development of the site. Details of these five plans can be found below:

  • A conservation management plan which identifies the overall historical, ecological and cultural significance and value of Loscoe Dam.
  • An access plan which explores how greater access to the site can be achieved for a wider audience.
  • An audience development plan to look at how existing people and groups are using the site and how barriers to users can be overcome.
  • An education and training plan which looks how the project can contribute to local training needs and how volunteers could become involved with the long term management of Loscoe Dam.
  • A Project Implementation Plan which brings together the many elements of the project and determines how the site could be improved in the future.

The Loscoe Dam Project is above all a community project and we would like you to get involved. Volunteering is an opportunity to help improve the site and personal development for example you could help to catalogue the sites wildlife habitats while learning a range of survey skills. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact Sarah at sarah@pleydellsmithyman.co.uk.
